The beginning is generous. It accepts a bad title, an overlarge idea, and the belief that this time the folder will be organized. Nothing has failed because nothing has yet had the opportunity. Starting gives the imagination excellent lighting.

Finishing asks what the thing is for, who it is for, and whether the last twenty percent is work or fear wearing a tool belt. Some projects need to be finished because their value is in being used. A website needs a working link. A chair needs to hold someone. A piece of writing needs to leave the desk.
Other things are experiments, and an experiment is not a failed product because it did not become a product. I do not want to romanticize a pile of abandoned work. I want to know which pieces are seeds, which are compost, and which are old tabs I was too sentimental to close.
