THE FILM I DIDN'T EXPECT TO LIKE.

I expected to dislike The Green Ray. Then the film began to pay attention to small discomforts: a cancelled plan, a conversation that goes slightly wrong, the way a person stands when she would rather be somewhere else.

“The work is to stay near the things that make you curious.”

What changed my mind was the pace. Nothing rushes to make the protagonist agreeable. A scene about the green ray arrives almost casually, and the sound of people talking makes the landscape feel like another person in the room. I did not leave with a lesson. I left looking at sunset differently.
